"...Women, also would and can provide something more than
ordinary in the face of the common need." Mary Ward
Contemporary as these words may sound they are the words of Mary
Ward, foundress of the Loreto Sisters, spoken almost four hundred
years ago to her companions, calling them all to a vision of women
sharing actively in the Church's ministry.
Religious Life envisaged by Mary Ward demands an interior attitude
of Freedom, Justice and Truth for those who journey in it.
These three stances carry a contemporary challenge:
- to be free enough to respond to God present and acting in our
world,
- to persist in justice-making, especially among the powerless who
reveal God's presence,
- to be who we say we are, disciples of Jesus. These qualities of
heart, give witness to the Gospel and give credibility to religious
life.
Mary Ward's companions in the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary
(Loreto) serve in many ministries throughout the world.
